The Ultimates: Against All Enemies

Until recently, I'd read more Ultimates novels than actual comics or trade collections. This book and it's earlier companion serve to fill in some of the gaps in the main story arc of the comics. In this case, it is the final disposition of the Chitauri - the major villain of the first series. It also serves to introduce the second series' lead bad guy, Loki. Outside of those two points, this is a fun read - if you are a fan of the comics - and remains largely forgettable. It is a decent workman's effort and I'd be interested to see Alex Irvine's other writings. However, this book did make me seek out the two collections of Ultimates books and to give them a read. I'll say more about them at a different time after I've had time to digest them.
