Hell Island

HELL ISLAND is a novella length addition to Matt Reilly's Shane "Scarecrow" Schofield series. The Scarecrow books were what hooked me onto Reilly's writing despite the wild improbabilities and flat-out wrong descriptions of military culture. Reilly knows how to build a throwaway action thriller that does nothing but entertain. HELL ISLAND maintains this formula effectively.

Scarecrow and his Marines are once again called into a dubious mission and must survive it. In this case though, many are doubting Shane following the horrific events of the previous book. But we loyal readers know our hero will shine through and will accomplish some amazing feats to win the day. The only thing I felt was missing from the book was the maghook, the trusty weapon and tool of Reilly's Force Recon Marines. I guess they just didn't fit in this story.

Reilly knows what his readers want and does not disappoint. Reports say that a new Scarecrow book will be out in January. I will have my name on the library queue when the time comes.
